We just saw an episode of Ghost Hunters (TAPS). Pretty cool! I think the house they were investigating was in Rutland. I really wished I had caught more details. They were talking about a waterway running under the home, possibly causing some of the issues. The bathroom sink turned on by itself also. No loose knobs so they tell. It got me thinking about a book I had laying around here. It is The Vermont Ghost Guide by Joseph Citro. An awesome quick read.

X-Project: Emily's Bridge (Haunted Covered Bridge in Stowe, Vermont)
I've actually been to Emily's Bridge. I can't remember seeing anything, but I do remember feeling a cold spot near the center of the bridge.

We ended up swimming in the river/stream that ran under it. The water was nice and shallow, but there was one current that almost sucked me down into a deep pool.

I know the one you're talking about. I think it was Pittsford.

Silly question, but how do I find out about a house being haunted? There is a lovely older home that we are possibly moving into and for some reason those little hairs on the back of my neck stand up when we've looked at the house. Can't put my finger on it but I get the feeling that "something" else lives there or some kind of presence. I don't want to come right out and ask the owners if their house is haunted and offend them. It could just be my own paranoia since I've never lived in an old house.

About 10 years ago we rented a relatively new house in Morristown, near Stowe. It was a very nice contemporary home in a small development.

My son was to sleep in the bedroom above the garage. After the first night, he complained that there were 'bugs' in the room and refused to sleep in it again. He slept on the trundle bed in his sisters' bedroom thereafter.

I got a strange feeling in that bedroom which is why I didn't try to convince him to stay in it. One afternoon, my husband took the kids out for a fun excursion, and I stayed behind to do some laundry and relax.

I decided to lay down in that bedroom and take a nap. As I was floating to sleep, I vividly and clearly "saw" in my mind a man and little girl dressed in clothes from the late 1800's - early 1900's. The little girl had a dress & apron that reminded me of "Little House on the Prairie," or Holly Hobbie. Anyway, that snapped me awake - no nap in that bedroom!

A couple of days later, I was talking with the lady next door. She and her husband bought that property some years ago and developed it, keeping the one lot for themselves.

It was originally a farm property. She told me the story of the family that originally owned it (they bought the farm from the family's descendents). She happened to mention that at one time the father and young daughter had died from influenza or something like that. Then she told me that the home we were renting was built on the site of the original farmhouse. That explained alot!

That feeling alone is telling you something. Ask about the history of the house. And frankly, I would ask them if they have every experienced unusual occurences in the house. Tell them you get an odd feeling in there. They might look at you like you're nuts (been there) or tell you something interesting.

yeah, they might look at you like your nuts...or look at each other nervously! Be aware of how they react if you ask themthat question. They might want out of the house for whatever reason, and I don't think there are any real estate disclosure laws about possible ghosts, so they may not want to tell you the truth. So pay close attention to their eye contact and/or body language. And please keep us aprised of what happens. We'd all love to know if your "hunch" about this house was right!

Default Haunted houses

I had heard that Connecticut has a law about disclosing "supernatural" happenings when selling a home. I think all states should require it.

Maybe they are afraid that the buyer might think the real estate agent is insane or something.

Any place inside or outside can be haunted, because any place could have spirits there - just like people. Heck, there was a spirit in my room a few times, but it was my own -- I was astral traveling.
