I recently applied for Unemployment Insurance after losing hours at work due to COVID19. I got the letter from the EDD that shows the wage earnings I for the quarters ending Dec. 18, Mar. 19, Jun. 19, and Sep. 10.
During those quarters, I was not working as many hours at my job as I could have been because I was attending college. Without the financial aid I was receiving for college, some of which was awarded to assist with living expenses, I would have had to work those extra hours to pay my bills. After dropping out at the end of 2019, I needed more income and put in the request for full time at work.
Since the financial aid money was not considered wages, the EDD did not consider anything more than the money I was making at my job. Do they ever consider increasing benefit amount for these kinds of situations? I would have been getting between 30 and 40 hours a week during these four quarters if I had not been attending college, so it's like I had the potential to be earning much more very easily, but I did not because I was getting the money I needed from college financial aid.
I should add that for the year of 2020 up until COVID 19 made the news, I was working 30 hours a week. Now, I'm getting no more than 19 and I my request for as many hours as possible with HR is still current. Perhaps those check stubs would make a difference if I asked them to consider? Anyone have any experience with this kind of situation?
