Question: I work for a California based company "remotely" from home in Michigan and will be laid-off end of August 2014. Do I file for Unemployment Benefits in Michigan or California?
It's supposed to be the state you work IN that is the determining factor, but since CA has a better UI set up than MI, you should apply in CA first, and cross your fingers. If it rejects, you can apply in MI and use the denial from CA to get backdating of your claim so you aren't out any weeks.
