Hi again, all.

Here's a sort-of crazy question which I never really understood, so here it goes…

In my last job, I worked there for a little over three years. I was let go in January of this year.
My benefit year is from January 15, 2012 to January 12, 2013.

I'm currently in EUC TIer I.

I may be completely wrong, but if I do not find work by then, would I be able to file a new claim on January 13, 2012?

You certainly can file a new claim on January 13, 2013.

As a matter of fact, if EUC is extended into February, you will need to call NJ, speak to a representative in order to recertify your claim. NJ will then file a new claim for you as part of the recertification process.

However, unless you have worked between 1/15/12-1/12/13 and earned enough to qualify for a new claim, your application for a new claim will be denied.

In that event, if the legislation still permits, NJ will continue your EUC Tier 2 benefits, which you should begin sometime in December.

If Congress does not extend the legislation in December, of course, all EUC benefit payments end with week ending 12/29/12.

If you have not worked, you do not qualify for a new claim, either.
