Anyone else a huge Country fan here? and watched the CMA Awards last night? Was very good as always. I just can't believe Taylor Swift won for Entertainer of the Year! What the heck? That's such a joke! I was waiting for them to announce the real winner.
Don't get me wrong Taylor Swift is ok but she shouldn't be winning all the time- she hasn't paid her dues. I like Carrie Underwood also- but same thing she shouldn't be winning all the time either- she hasn't paid her dues either.

I knew Tswift was going to win. I really like her, I can pass on Carrie, but I do think she has an amazing voice.

That guy who did the Devil in The House of The Rising Sun (Chickenfried?) was AMAZING!

My DH is the big country fan, but I like some of it too.

I watched it for about 2 hours, then was too tired and went to bed.
I'm really glad Lady Antebellum got the two awards they were nominated for, I just love them!
I don't mind Taylor Swift winning best female vocalist, but I too think she needs to prove more before being entertainer of the year. Oh by the way, is it me or did she sing completely out of tune at the beginning of the show?

I watched and thought it was one of the better awards show done in a long time! I especially enjoyed all the humor injected into it and all the live music performances.

Having said that, I think they need rethink their sound system as it seemed to broadcast more of the lead singers singing and not a good balance of the musicians and back up singers. That causes us to hear more clearly the off key parts of a live performance. If they had a good balance it wouldn't have stood out as much, not only on Taylor's performance but on many of the others as well.

I had started out thinking that there wasn't a chance Taylor would win Entertainer of the Year, until I listened to someone talking about it...either on the radio or TV. Anyway, they listed the sales figures she's had this past year, ratings on the charts, the amount of tour dates, special events she took part it, TV/Radio appearances she made and charity work she's done this year and I was totally amazed!

So, yeah, she definitely deserved it after hearing all that!

As for us (wife/I), we still like the "cowboy" type bands. The ones who wore Wrangler jeans, Roper boots and cowboy hats on.......George Strait type bands! So many of the singers/bands of today look like a rock band with a country "twang" in their singing. I remember how Terry Clark use to look......cowboy hat, Slicker and cowboy boots on. Now that is cool looking! We will take Brooks & Dunn, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Chris LeDoux (now passed away), Hank Williams, Jr., Toby Keith, Shania Twain and even those older groups such as, Alabama, Charlie Daniels, Little Texas, The Judds and (without a doubt) Garth Brooks wayyyyyyyyy over some of the Bands of today! But, at our age (60-61), we would be into the older stuff.
But, when we went to a rodeo, some years ago in Vegas, and Aerosmith and fireworks were going on before the Grand Entry.......THAT was totally cool!

I heard very little that sounded Country. I have nothing against Carrie Underwood, but thought her song and "Dance" number was out of line. She looked slutty in that getup and the way she kept thrusting her pelvis out with her straddled legs.

The Judds looked scary.

Taylor Swift is a lovely young woman who has wonderful song writing skills, but she can't sing.

I did not like the song Sugarland performed and I felt embarrassed for Jennifer when she offered Brooks & Dunn the opportunity to say something. They pretty much just waved her off.

Darius Rucker was so genuinely happy, it was contagious and I was happy for him.

I didn't like the Daughtry/Vince Gill pair-up either.

I guess I'm with George Jones. Country Music isn't country anymore. I'm worried for it.

Taylor Swift does NOT deserve the Entertainer Of The Year award IMO........the girl is only 19 years old and hasn't paid her dues yet.
As for Carrie Underwood's performance last night.............PLEASE!........to over the top and the song was not "Country."
I thought Barbra Mandrell looked good and was hoping she would of sung something. We use to watch her show all the time.
Sorry folks but what the heck happened to Naomi Judd........she looked awful!!
Poor Vince Gill, could hardly hear him with Daughtry barking as usual.
Where was Alan Jackson,Toby Keith and Trace Adkins?
Tim McGraw looked good but I wasn't to thrilled with his new song. Seen him several years back though and he put on a good show. Another good show we attended was Shania Twain......people if she returns to touring don't miss her. I could go on with a list of who to see but I will save that for another time.

I bought the CD because I love LOOVE LOOOOOVE their song "Toes". The uncut version is on the CD. The ending is awesome

Didn't see much of the CMA's but when I came in the door I turned it on and Jennifer Nettles was singing (Sugarland). Went and got the dogs out of their crate, put them outside, put my shoes up in the closet, turned on the front lights, got a bottle of water, checked phone messages and she was STILL SINGING and it went on for another couple of minutes. Just how long was that song????? She has an amazing voice but she sounds the same in every song. I think she has gone too dramatic.

Don't get me wrong Taylor Swift is ok but she shouldn't be winning all the time- she hasn't paid her dues. I like Carrie Underwood also- but same thing she shouldn't be winning all the time either- she hasn't paid her dues either.

I enjoyed the show. As far as Taylor winning Entertainer of the Year, I'm ok with it because the award is for Entertainer OF THE YEAR...not "of all time" or "of the decade". If it were based on paying dues and a whole life's body of work, then I'd say yes, it's too soon. But the kid worked her butt off this year and had a very successful tour and awesome sales. That sort of fits the description of the award.

The award I did disagree with was Female Vocalist. her vocals are not as strong as Reba's or Martina's...they are much better vocalists. If that award was based on Taylor's success this year, rather than her vocal ability, then they got away from the meaning of the award.

I spent more time, however, eyeing up the handsome men. I wish Trace Adkins had been there.

I loved seeing Charlie McCoy in the Barbara Mandrell tribute...he's awesome!
