I started watching the Tonight Show back when Steve Allen was the host. I watched it through Jack Parr, Johnny Carson, and Jay Leno. But on Monday night when the baton is passed to Conan O'Brien I will not be watching. I have tried several times to watch the Conan O'Brien show and I can say honestly that I'd rather watch the test pattern on t.v. than him. The test pattern is no more boring and not nearly as irritating. I'm just wondering if there are any others out there like me? Are some of you also about to become former Tonight Show viewers or are you looking forward to O'Brien taking over?
I love Jay Leno's show. I will watch him at 10 when he moves there. I love Headlines and I think the back-and-forth with Kevin Eubanks is funny. Conan O'Brien never makes me laugh. If I want to watch something at that time I will most definitely watch David Letterman.
I like Leno.
My favorite was Carson and before that it was Steve Allen.
No way does Conan O'Brien even come close to those.
I have never watched any of his shows and I never will.
In my opinion he is just wasted air time.
I watched him about two minutes one night while flipping through channels. That was enough for me to know I had no interest in watching someone with absolutely no talent.
Whoever hired him must have been desparate.
I didn't watch Steve Allen, I'm too young. However, my kindergarten teacher expressed concern when I'd talk about Johnny Carson at school! My dad worked 2nd shift and when he'd get home I'd sneak out and watch some of the Tonight Show with him. Good times.
I quit watching late night TV regularaly years ago. When I did watch, I chose Letterman. I like Conan and his weird sense of humor. Never cared for Leno but still watched occasionally.
I started watching The Tonight Show shortly after Carson started. I barely remember the Jack Paar days. I was surprised when it went to Jay Leno (although I'm glad it was him and not Letterman, since I can't stand Letterman). I'm definitely looking forward to Conan. I like and appreciate his off-beat sense of humor.
I think the staff writers write Jokes for a particular "Time Slot" That's why if you what loved Johnny you think Letterman is dry. I will bet Conan's antics, guest, and jokes, will be written to fit the advertisers and viewers in his new slot.
I dont think I was born yet when Parr was host. I remember Johnny Carson from my childhood and love Jay Leno. I just cant imagine the Tonight Show without him. Id drive by the Burbank studio on my way to the market or to get a sandwich and just feel like having Jay there is like being at home. NBC should have just told Conan "look, I know we promised you this but Jay is the #1 late night show, lets wait a few years".
