Watching the tonight show with Jay Leno everynight was my release at the end of some very long days during two very difficult and trying years. I am so sorry to see him go. I grew up with Johnny Carson hosting it, and he was a class act also. It seemed odd when Jay Leno first took over, but after awhile, he made the show his own. Jay Leno had me in actual tears of laughter many nights - guess I just like his silly and down-to-earth sense of humor.

I will not be watching Conan, my kids like him, but I just don't. I almost feel embarassed for him. He won't last in that slot because he's just not of the same caliber as the previous hosts.

See because YOU feel that way does not mean everyone else does. Conan goes for the YOUNGER audience not the older. Quite frankly NBC seems to care less what you think, and more about the 18-24 gap which Conan is strong in.

I would count Conan's first night a success. I was pleasantly shocked to see Andy Richter back. He will do fine.

Oh come on. Conan is a very intelligent humorist. His marked agility in interviews is rarely matched.

Conan-haters (i.e., Leno-lovers) are now the grandparent generation. The Tonight Show torch has been passed.

The test pattern is no more boring and not nearly as irritating. I'm just wondering if there are any others out there like me? Are some of you also about to become former Tonight Show viewers or are you looking forward to O'Brien taking over?
Ditto.
I did watch the opening show hoping for some re-freshing new format and after 25 minutes saw nothing new and a pretty well lame and messed up beginning, so I watched some re-runs on another station.

My kids (teenagers) do tell me the reason I don't like Conan is because I'm "old". Which may very well be true.

However, I'm not so sure the Tonight Show IS supposed to be geared to the younger generation. I remember my parents watching Johnny Carson as I have watched Jay Leno.

So I guess we'll see.

I liked Jay Leno. He had funny jokes, I liked the banter between him and Kevin Eubanks, I liked those little clips they played during Jay's monologue, and I liked the things like Headlines, Jaywalking, Celebrity Jeopardy, and so on. I think Jay's 10:00pm show will be similar to his version of the Tonight Show. I know for a fact that Headlines will still be aired on the new show. I have a feeling that Jay's show will last for a while, his old audience will watch his new show.

I don't like Conan, and I definitely don't like his sidekick Andy Ritcher. He is the most annoying person I have seen on TV in awhile, and Conan isn't that far away from him. Conan acts too stupid on the stage. I just don't like it.

So the OP said Goodbye Tonight Show, and he/she is absolutely right!
