I just finished watching this series on DVD. It ran in 1999 or 2000 and only lasted 18 episodes before it was cancelled. It's about a group of kids in high school in Michigan in 1980. It's very funny and realistic.
If you have not seen this show before, I can't give a higher recommendation.
OMG. I LOVE Freaks & Geeks. Best show ever, seriously. It was absolute brilliance. I wont even get into it now cause I'll be here all night talking about it lol. I havent watched it in a while.. I should rent it again.
Excellent show. Has the star of it made any other movies ? He was perfect. I know the big sister was in "Scooby-Doo" movies. (I took my child, I HAD to go)
Add my thumbs up to Freaks and Geeks. Another show a major network (NBC) had no patience to let develop an audience. If it had been on a cable network or Paramount network or the like, it might have survived. But jamming another reality show down our throats is more important I guess.
Most of the actors have gone on to have very successful careers:
Linda Cardellini (Lindsey) has been on ER for a while now
John Francis Daley (Sam) was on the short-lived Kitchen Confidential (with the cute guy from Alias) and is now on Bones (With the yummy David Boreanaz)
James Franco is very A-List these days, most notably probably from the Spider-Man movies
And my personal fave, Jason Segel, showed us more than I was expecting (!!!) in his new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and is constantly cracking me up on the absolutely hysterical and criminally under-rated CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother (alongside Alyson Hannigan of Buffy fame and Neil Patrick Harris)
Also important to note, this was one of Judd Apatow's shows (of 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad fame). He also had a short-lived series on Fox called Undeclared long ago.
Although this show wasn't aimed at my demographic I always tried to catch it. In addition to those already mentioned it also had Seth Rogen (40 YO Virgin), Busy Phillips (Dawson's Creek and E.R.) and Joanna Garcia (Reba's oldest daughter).
It was a great show, I didn't know it was available on DVD, hello Netflix!
He also had a short-lived series on Fox called Undeclared long ago.
I liked that one, too, though not nearly as much as Freaks and Geeks. I could identify with Freaks a lot more, because I was about Sam's age in that era. But Undeclared wasn't anything at all like my college experience. Still a fun show though!
It´s one of the best shows ever.
Bill Haverchuk is my favourite.
Jason Segel was great here and in How I Met Your Mother too.
