I agree that Rosie was never the Queen of mean. That term started with Leona Helmsley and the two women could not have been more different.
The truth is Rosie really turned many people off when she came out. Some people just automatically don't like "different" people. She was harsh with Tom Selleck about gun control and NRA and his extremely conservative views but I think she apologized for that later. She feels very passionately about many things and she, like everybody else, should be allowed to voice her opinions.

Her generosity is legend. It might not be known to the general public but she like many other wealthy people takes extra effort to keep her charitable deeds quiet.

Remember the problems that Ellen D. had when she came out. Now she is huge. Maybe Rosie will have better luck this time around. A lot of show business people would have a tough time dealing with Elizabeth's views.

Rosie was never considered "mean" until she started voicing her opinion on various topics and came out publicly as being gay. People freaked out when the "nice LI girl with the talk show" came out as being a Lesbian parent and when she had the audacity to voice her opinion on anything relevant (how DARE she!).

I know a lot of people who worked on her talk show back in the 1990s and they have all said she wasn't "mean" at all. She may have been a tough boss but that was because so many people depended on HER success in order to make a living and support their families. (think about the number of people who worked in the production of her show). I'm guessing if she was a MAN, it would have been OK and he would be "running a tight ship". But, because Rosie is a woman, she is "The Queen of Mean" or a "b*tch".

he gave each and every person who worked on her show an amazing 'parting gift' (out of her own pocket) when she decided not to sign the new 5 year contract and ended her show. She did the same for the people who worked at her magazine. When the men who owned it didn't like the way the magazine was (even though it was a huge seller) and decided to end it, she gave everyone who worked there a nice check (out of her own pocket) as a parting gift.

And let's not forget about what she does for regular people.... I can't tell you how many people she's purchased homes for to help them. She gives money, help, etc. She also has the Maravel Arts Center where kids from low income areas can take lessons in theater for FREE and are provided with meals, etc.

Yep, she's the Queen of Mean, alright!
It's not that she's a lesbian nor that she voices her own opinions. Its that she's very "in your face" ready to fight confrontational when it comes to her voicing her opinion towards those she knows believes the opposite. She needs to learn how to alter her voice and body language when expressing her opinion so that she isn't making her statement into a personal challenge/threat. Why do so many comedians turn into angry bitter people as they get older?

Ellen is doing what Rosie use to do, have fun. When Rosie had her original talk show, she was smiling, laughing, having fun, and people loved her. Her show began to go down hill after her confrontational and angry interview she had with Tom Selleck. Now he's back on TV in a hit TV series and she's begging for work.

agree

don't watch the view and wouldn't watch it with her or without her. But from what I have seen on TV she is so in your face with her point of view that I find it rude and disrespectful to her guests.

that is why I don't care for her.

like the character she played in Sleepless and a League though. but it was an act.

Rosie is not begging for work. She has so much money she gives it away by the houseful. They (Baba who is still the producer) asked her to come and met her extremely high salary demands. Her wife is ill and they have been speending a lot of time together and with their children.
Remember Rosie had not only the successful TV show but a very successful magazine.

I agree Amsi, Rosie is very charitable. WAY more than most of the "haves". She has been quoted saying that her money manager would be fired, if she had too much money. After a certain amount, it HAS to be donated. I don't get all the hate towards her. I haven't watched the View since she left. I will if she comes back.

I stopped watching it long ago, and I won't watch it now. I confess I like Rosie O'Donnell, but I only like the funny, crafty Rosie, but her political views cancel that out.
She's her own worst enemy.

Bingo. Somewhere along the line, Rosie lost her sense of humor.
