I tend to like this style writing shown in True Detective. I like it in books, movies and shows. We are started at point A. Jump back and forth from point A to point C. Slowly fill in point B with the tease of a point D coming.......
I am a little less enamored of McConaghey's (sp) character or acting I'm not sure which. It just seems uneven. Which makes sense given the background that was revealed about his undercover days and yet, some of the shifts in character and line delivery just ring off to me. Still, very much enjoying the ride so far.
Everything I've read about this show is that is a discovery of two men, their relationship, and a descent in dark and secrets.
The question is; is it them who have the dark secrets? Maybe unrelated to the actual who done it?
Really good show, HBO is still the reigning heavy weight champ of TV, and nobody is really even close.
I don't think either cop will end up being the killer that they are looking for in 2012, even though MM is clearly capable of becoming unhinged and has been through a lot. The writing appears to be too clever for such a cliche turn.
Woody's justification of his infedility was rather comical.
I also noticed there was an owl perched on a ceiling beam in the old church that disappeared as they got further in. I looked up what owls symbolize, and its kinda all over the board. Some cultures they have positive imagery and others use them as evil symbols. Given the shows dark nature, I think it's obvious to assume it was the later being invoked.
I don't know where the story is going to go, but I am safely assuming I will be surprised at whatever turns we take here.
Great show!
