Recorded: Christmas of 2003, I think, was when our trusty Bell & Howell full-size VHS camcorder finally gave up the ghost.
Playback: As in watch an entire movie, probably August of 2006 in our camper, which did not have a DVD player; I watched portions of the Christmas 2003 video just a few minutes ago. The VCR, I am happy to report, is now playing back a better picture, thanks to being out of our damp basement for longer, after about 2 years of storing it there.
I watch movies in my garage while I ride a stationary recumbent bike for an hour each day before breakfast. Some are on DVD, but many are still on VHS.
I have a combo DVD recorder/VHS. I watch a vhs once in awhile to continue the vhs to dvd project. With a box full of vhs tapes, it's going to take awhile.
We got a DVR very early, in the latter part of 1999 and stopped using a VCR to time shift then. The last other tape we watched was in 2001 or 2002 when we watched the tape that came with my Wife's jeep to show how to put the top down. We had actually gotten rid of all our VCRs by then except one that was built in to a little 13 inch tv we used to travel with.
I have rare, archival documentaries on VHS, as well as a lot of movies. I'm not going to pay to have all that transfered to DVD as long as I have a VHS player.
