I use to reminisce and watch my old highlight tapes... but I even converted those over a DVD so it has been about 8 years since I have seen one.
I do not even own a Video Tape player... I still have some videos I think buried in my basement. Maybe I will show them to my kids one day for nostalgia.
I watched a concert earlier today that was recorded from ANALOGUE CABLE (USA network) on 12/31/85 and its absolutely georgeous!!!!!! (Found this @ salvation army last year)
I purchased a bunch of VHS tapes of children's movies for .50/ea. at my local thrift shop. All the Disney ones, plus some others. The grandkids like picking out a movie to watch when they come over. When my VCR bites the dust, not sure if I'll be able to find one to replace it.
Rewinding the tape is a pain. The automatic rewinders once so plentiful and cheap are hard to find unless you want to spend $20+ for them online.
I have some video tapes, and a DVD burner, but they are copy protected, so I can't burn them to DVD without buying some extra junk, and don't feel the desire. Copy protection on a VHS tape! That's brave! Even when they were new they were a terrible technology. Man there is so much stuff that hasn't been re-issued on digital or DVD. Losing all this seems sad in a way.
^^^I know what you mean. I have the first VHS player we bought that still works (33 years old, no remote with the
flip injector to place the tape). I have a few tapes that are not available on dvd (and I've searched everywhere).

Bailey, good point.
I wanted a copy of the (rightfully maligned) Christopher Columbus: The Discovery, a few years back. At the time, it hadn't been released on (North American) DVD, so I got a used VHS copy. My VCR still comes in handy for tracking down hidden gems (& turds) that never made it to DVD. VCRs are a good resource to retain if u can.. peace.
There are tons of VCR's for sale on Amazon and Ebay. Nobody has to worry if one breaks. We have a VCR-DVD combo player and use the VCR for a lot of the old Disney movies for my daughter. She doesn't care.
Yesterday. I have three working VCRs and I'm always recording something.
