Thanks for sharing your story and I'm glad you started you own business. If you've actually talked elsewhere about it in C-D, please point me to that post because I've been toying with the idea of starting my own business and I wanted to read first hand accounts of how other women did it. (I should probably venture over to the employment forum, but have yet to do so).

Regarding relationships where there are no children involved, I actually know a couple where the woman is going to law school (just about to graduate actually), and before she was married, her and her husband agreed that he would be the stay-at-home husband when she graduates. He has a part-time job (not a career) working at Kinkos or something, but he plans to quit as soon as she finds a lawyering job.

Personally, I think that kind of arrangement is fine as long as it's what both parties have talked about and agreed upon. If Slade's not taking it upon himself to figure things out, Gretchen needs to have a sit-down talk with him and ask him what the 6-month, 1-year, 5-year plan is. They need to figure one out and once they do, if he doesn't stick to it, she needs to get rid of him!

There is nothing wrong with either partner choosing to be a stay at home worker, and cooking, cleaning, whatever, as long as they both choose it, and they both feel happy and satisfied. I'm also 100% supportive of stay at home dads, it seems like before there are kids the other partner would get bored staying at home unless they are a writer, artist or something they can do at home. I sure got bored when I took that time off, and it was less than a year, I gained weight like Slade, it was hard to get motivated to work out, sometimes having too much time makes it harder to get motivated to get things done. Gretchen is clearly not happy with the current arrangement, she wants a man with his own ambitions, I personally feel the same way, unless there are kids and my man wants to be a full time dad which we may do someday, I want him pursuing something. Slade just seems lost right now, he needs to find something.

I haven't posted specifically about starting a business, it's a little different for me because I started by going back to school, and getting an advanced degree in the medical field, so my business is practicing in my field. I'm always happy to share my experiences, in many ways business is business when it comes to running things, but I wouldn't know the specifics of how to start other types of businesses. Usually, once you figure out what your business is going to be, the next step is financing, start up costs can vary a lot. A lot of times the business can be based on a current career, or even a hobby.

The best thing is to figure out what you love to do, and go from there. Most people won't need to go back to school, but I would recommend finding something you feel passionate about because it will become such a huge part of your life. Sometimes it's 24/7 especially during the first couple years, but there is something magical, and so freeing about working for yourself, and answering only to yourself, it's a totally different feeling from having a boss. I LOVE IT! You can start a thread and I'm sure many will have advice, and of course there are tons of great books out there.

Oh, I am not saying that he is cool or doing the right thing or not slimey for ditching his kid's child support. I am just saying that there are plenty of Housewives who do nothing but powder their tatas and they don't get crap for not working or for not contributing to the household income (and they have five nannies and don't do ****e all day).

They would get crap from me, but if the partner is okay with it, I can't really say anything! I would not feel good about myself if I did nothing, and just lived off some man's money, I can't imagine not having ambitions in life. Actually, women who have nannies do get a lot of crap on this website. I consider taking care of children a job, and I am supportive of either men, or women quit work to be a full time parent. I don't judge about nannies, childcare is hard work, if someone can afford professional help, that doesn't make them a lesser parent.

There are men who don't want their woman to work, they feel it looks bad on them. They don't want the woman to do anything, but focus all her attention on him, and also working out and shopping for nice clothes so she always looks good on his arm. I don't think they are too many women who want to keep a trophy man around like that, but times are a' changing, they may be more opportunities coming up for trophy men.

I hope people know that I do mean the women who stay at home but don't actually do anything at home...not the ones who slave away taking care of kids, paying bills, and cleaning...

I understood, Stan. I have a problem with these women on the show who have nannies just so they can pamper themselves all day instead of taking care of their children. Peggy, is a stay at home mom, no nannies, takes care of her own kids. Alexis, stays home, does nothing, has gone down from 3 nannies to 2. She is more than capable of taking care of her own children, but chooses not to so she can go to the gym, get hair extensions, get her nails done, go shopping, etc. Tamra and Vicki even didn't have nannies. And taking your nanny on a supposedly "family" vacation is ridiculous. Its called laziness.

And yes raising children is a very hard job, but you should do it yourself if you have the luxury of not having to work, or you should not have children at all. People like that make me sick. They think children are so disposable. They need their moms and dads, not some woman who can't even speak English raising them. Its horrible. I have no problem with nannies if both the mom and dad work. Someone needs to care for the children when the mom and dad aren't around, but when they are around and the nannies are still there? Disgusting.

And can everyone please stop saying that Slade is overweight and out of shape? I can't stand the guy, but he looks great. I guess all the people judging are supermodels then? Gretchen is a B*%$#. How dare she say she doesn't like anyone around her who is fat or overweight. I wonder if she tells her mom to lose weight? She isn't super skinny. And we all know her hairdresser sure isn't. She is shallow. I hate shallow people.

I feel that Slade purposely doesn't want a job because he is punishing his ex-partners (Baby Mommas). He then of course punishes his children. Although, I am surprised that he has visitation if he is behind in child support.

One's self worth must be damaged. Even if he "works" for/with Gretchen, he could get paid something and thus "feel" like he is paying something towards child support. I would love to be a fly on the wall for intimate finance conversations between Gretchen and Slade.

Jesus Barbie was all in tears Slimeball Jim is her King and was unwilling to escort his Queen to the party so he sent another Queen instead I hated to see Jesus Barbie so upset but she's been brainwashed (assuming that she has a brain to start with - I guess that was an assumption) and needs to get the h e double hockey sticks out of the relationship and start selling her Hookers for Jesus Wear on QVC.

Tamra and Eddie just needed to get a room

Slade is not overweight. I did say it would not hurt him to lose a few pounds but it is nothing to be concerned about. He def is not like Gretchen describes him.

OMG you are so right Gretchens mother is a bit overweight.

and as for Gretchens dogs being overweight that is totally Gretchens fault!
