There are other factors, elway . . .

What type of heating do you have . . . gas or electric? How old is your townhome? Roughly at what temperature do you keep your home?

How airtight are your windows/doors? The amount of heat that escapes from those areas (and comes IN in the summertime) can be more than you might imagine.

I used to lived in a 1 BR apt and my electric bill racked up to $160 per month around Dec and Jan. By Feb, the bill went down to around $70. The reason was one of my windows was left opened so my heater would run all the time. I usually leave my windows opened (I lived on a 3rd floor apt by the catalinas) during fall when temperatures are around 70-80 degrees.

Also, is your clothes dryer electric? Your oven/stove and do you do a lot of cooking?

Wow our 3 bdrm house was $69 last month (7 year old house, gas hot water and heat). During the hot months of summer it was $160. The ac set to 78 degrees and all the shades open all the time (love the natural light, and the dogs love laying in the windows...).

Has to be something wrong.

We had a bad month as well, 150 bucks. I'm chalking mine up to Xmas lights and leaving more lights on than needed, we're leaving everything possible off this month and we'll see if it normalized or if something is just wrong with TEP's meter.

My bill for a 3BR/2BA all electric home (1500 sq ft) was about $285/mo until my AC died last May. After I replaced it, my bill dropped dramatically. I had been on $285.00 SNAP payments, and within 3 months, I had overpaid SNAP so that my next couple of months were free. They set my new SNAP payment at $215.00. I still have really leaky windows and southern exposure, so I went to Home Depot and I've had my windows measured and ordered, so I will be getting Andersen dual pane wood windows. My HOA says the windows have to have "grilles" which is fine, and I am getting special insect screens. I fully expect my summer electric bill to dip even lower, between the energy star AC, and the energy star windows. I wonder if I can still get a tax credit on the AC after 8 months, when I file my taxes next month?

The heating degree days for December 2011 in Tucson were abnormally high this year. 490 compare d to 390 last year. That will existing all of your higher prices.
