As a true crime author of several serial killer books, I've had the pleasure or not so much pleasure of interviewing a few here in Canada. With so many TV shows and documentaries, people are intrigued with the criminal mind. I've been invited on the A&E show The Killer Speaks, later on this year. It is fascinating stuff. But, it can wear you down fast if you allow their stories to get inside your heart. In my books, I speak for the victims. That's who I care about.
If given the chance to spend an hour with any SK dead or alive, who would it be and why? Would you actually go through with it if given the opportunity? They will put ugly pictures in your mind, uglier than any book you would read.

Charles Starkweather. I was a teen when he killed and the story utterly fascinated me. I almost kinda had a crush on him, not really being fully aware of everything he did. I still remember how sad I was the night he was executed.
I suppose I would rather meet his girlfriend, Caril Ann. I would love to hear her words as to how on earth she got so wrapped up in him. She was a teen, like me, and I suppose easily influenced by an older "bad boy" fella who made her feel special.
I am a prolific reader of true crime and have read about most of the serial killers that have been in the news within the last 30 or 40 years - however I would not spend one minute of my life with any one of them. They are not heroes, not role models. Their crimes are carefully documented and you could easily read them and find out anything you would want to know about him and his crimes. Why would you want to do that? You showing any interest in them or what they did would only elevate their idea that they did something to be proud of, or that they outwitted their victims and the law enforcement officers who spent sometimes years tracking them down and catching them. Why would you want to glorify their sick deeds in any way? The only way I would voluntarily spend any time with any serial killer is if I were there to pull the switch or insert and plunge the needle in their worthless bodies, or to load the gun and point it directly at them - that is all they are worth to me.

Agree I have no desire to meet one either...there are so many evil twisted souls on this planet and I have no desire to willingly interact with them. They don't intrigue me in the least. I see them as a disconnect from mind, body and soul. Nothing spiritual about them...they are void of it.
How do interviewers "regroup" after spending hours communicating with a serial killer, e.g., manson, dalmer, etc. (refuse to capitalize their names). Do they have dinner and drinks with associates/friends afterwards? Do they go home and shower? Do they pray? Do they exercise? Do they do ALL that stuff (and more)? How long does it take to recover from experiencing such darkness?
What a strange world this is ...
