Hi
we are a couple soon to be married (29 and 31 years old). We wanted to get your opinion on a place we could spend our honeymoon.

a bit more info:

we are active and love to travel. love hiking. love the beach. love wavy beaches to play. calm beaches are just 'ok'.
we have a budget of 2500 a person at the VERY most. (not including food).

Suggestions welcome.

Hawaii sounds like it would fit the bill. Maui in particular would offer the hiking and the beaches. You also have a choice of some nice hotels or you could rent a condo if you like having breakfast on the lanai without having to leave your room.

Hawaii is great, but we went to Oahu and Kauai a couple of months ago.

Check out St John, Virgin Islands. Seculded beaches, great snorkeling, relatively safe and most of the island is dedicated to a National Park with many hiking trails. The two main resorts are a bit spendy but if you go after March the rates drop substantially. Another affordable option would be to rent a private home, some of those are breath taking and have ocean views and hot tubs.

We went to the Moon Palace south of cancun - stayed 10 days and had an absolute blast

we were able to day trip to cozumel and chichen itza - they also had a variety of outdoor type things to do

the resort had a ton of great options and was all inclusive

the beach at the property wasn't the greatest - but did have good access to watersports

there were also free shuttles between the sister resorts and the ones in cancun proper had great beaches that were rocking and rolling

with your budget you could spend a little extra on the active type excursions and get a really good mix of relaxing, partying, culture and adventure - just be careful of hurrican season

st. john is really nice, but i'd be inclined to stay at st. thomas and island hop .... some really good beach options on both islands and some really good programs for hiking, etc through the park at st. johns ..... just one note is that while meagens bay on st. thomas is absolutely lovely, it's more like a pool - water very calm and very clear and the sand under your feet is very nice as well

How about the Cayman Islands? It's beautiful there, we stayed in a private home and had our own private beach with a boat.

How about Hawaii (Maui) ?
We wanted a romantic get away for our honeymoon, but not to much hussle and bussle. So we agreed on Maui.
(It had to be something unusual, extraordinary....elaborate, special, luxurious...once in a life time kind of thing)
What can I say.....It was absolutely fabulous !
Plenty of activities, awesome history and traditions...and so much more.
We stayed for 10 days...and enjoyed every bit of it.
No regret what-so-ever !
If you decide to go there...I can give you some info on where we stayed, and what we did. (Hotel, Restaurants, Nightclubs....etc.)

How soon is soon (month - weather considerations) & what state would you depart from (airfare costs)? Do you want to stay put or is in-country traveling okay?

A) Caravan Tour Costa Rica, 8 days in country inclusive (great food)(excluding airfare) - @$1,095 = $2,190 (plus do take the medical insurance for $99/), = $2,388. Our airfare 2/2 from Baltimore was $337 + baggage = $674 for 2. Balance = $1,938, spend that on a beach stay at one of the Pacific coast beach towns (Jaco, etc.) for as long as you can stay or spend it on some mini adventures doing zip lines, horse rides, etc. while staying at modest accomodations after Caravan. Alternately, design your own CR trip, there are lots of options. We're in Costa Rica now doing our usual winter snowbird gig so give a shout on CR questions.

B) Grand Circle Travel - Costa del Sol, 13 day apartment stay in Torremolinos, Spain, w/breakfast & dinner included, using airfare from Dulles, trip costs just under $4,900 for two (that includes fees/taxes). Torremolinos is a major beach town, beautiful beaches, great atmosphere and lots to do if you like foreign countries. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there (take lots of sun lotion, its hot). Given the budget picture, this obviously leaves zip for excursions, it would basically be a beach stay and you'd very likely spend a bit more (drinks, etc.) but you did say not including food so you would have some flexibility.

C) Fly to west coast, rent a car and do the Highway 1 drive.

D) Cosmos tours - take a look, they have many that might fit your budget and interests.

E) Cruises - I suspect you're well aware of this option - there are too many to comment on. You should be able to find many that fit your budget and tastes. We don't do them so can't help there.

For the referenced tours, just Google Caravan, Grand Circle & Cosmos tours. Best of luck.
