update.. I caught the M60 SBS bus to the N line, the over to 36th and walked the few blocks down. It was as painless as it could be, except it's a bit rainy and cold but well.. it's NY!
My fears were overblown, the area was way safer than I imagined, many people out and about even at 10pm and gotta love New York, the public transport is without doubt is light years ahead of anything I've experienced anywhere else in the US.
Uber driver wanted $40, I did it for $5.
I'm glad you did that. In the rare times where I don't have a car rental when visiting NYC, that's my route from the airport.
