Aloha Airlines has announced it will end all flights and stop operations on Monday.

That will be the last day for interisland and cross-Pacific flights.

The airline which filed for bankruptcy protection last week has already stopped selling tickets beyond Monday.

Wow, there goes a piece of history. They have been in business for so many decades. Without knowing all the details, it sounds like a combination of high fuel prices, higher costs to maintain the fleet and pay employees and new competition from the inter-island ferry boats.

The Superferry has been docked for a few months now....much to the happiness of the people on Kauai.

But yeah, Aloha operated for almost 60 years. There is a commercial running on TV commemorating the airlines and it has made me cry several times. What a shame...

Another great american airline down the tubes....60 years is a long time in any business, let alone a business as volatile as the airline industry....They were really a piece of avaition history...
