That's not the Métro. That's regional rail (RER). Mostly comfortable, if you don't mind having the buskers in the train with you.

Infact from Saint Placide, it's better to take a train (line N) from Montparnasse terminal than the RER C.

Some restaurants are really cheap (here in Luxembourg it's really expensive for..nothing, yuk) with a rather good quality. Passy/Auteuil are rich, not poor. I'm just saying that there are restaurants that are a real deal there. Same is true of New York.
