Dean Karnazes just finished his 50 Marathons in 50 States in 50 Days Tour. He was sponsored by The North Face. If you have an interesting "hook" you can find sponsorship.

For those who are medically inclined, travelling nurses are in demand.

Not highly paid (and a bit unstable), but all of the flight attendants I know travel extensively.

Yes, write up a plan, short but concise with a goal--say, mountains of the US, restaurants that are special--something as unique as you can imagine and do.

Taking a writing class is a great idea and if you have aptitude for taking photos, all the better.

I keep a journal!

I'm going to have to try this ONTHEROAD. How should I go about finding a sponsor? Should I right out a plan on what I want to do, where I want to go, and then start calling up potential sponsors? I should go take up writing and photograph classes! Maybe people would buy the pictures! :-D

You say you write extensively, what do you write? Books? or do you keep a journal for yourself?

I have a friend who works for Hilton Hotels and she travels all over the country. Hilton wants to know how they're doing in terms of service, quality, etc etc. She makes pretty good money although I'm not sure how much. And they pay for her airfare, hotel (obviously), food, and any other work-related expenses.

Thanks for all the responses! Great Ideas here!

SpeedyAZ, how did your friend get this job working with Hilton Hotels?? Did she go to corporate and say, "Hey! I want to travel to all your hotels and you're going to pay for it!" Then they were like, "ok" ?? haha

I really love the idea of finding a sponsor! A niche would be great! I wonder how much Dean Karnazes made. Other than Rachel Ray, there's Dirty Jobs where the guy gets to travel and try out dirty jobs. What a genius! How about Dave Attell, goes to different bars around different cities. Hmm..I need to find a production company! :-D

Keep up the great ideas!

I'm not sure what the exact title is but she applied for the position and they gave it to her.

I was just about to mention a flight attendant. All the other jobs are a bit more unrealistic unless you have a degree in writing. Your best bet is the flight attendant unless you can find a hotel that is hiring for that certain position.

Southwest is probably your best bet since they're the only one that is actually turning a profit. I also believe they're hiring flight attendants now. Pay isn't great (you start at $18/ trip, a trip is 240-some miles) but you do get to travel all over the US for free.

I actually considered becoming a flight attendant since I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to travel but I'd take a $40,000 pay cut which I just cannot justify. And I like my job so I'm now going to throw it all away. But you never know where life takes you....

How could I be an Automobile transporter without driving semi's?? To people really pay to have you go pick up a car for them??

Hmm...I wonder if I could just start my own magazine or a blog (something along those lines) and make money. Right a book about traveling around and the places I visited and give tips. Could work! If there's a will there's a way!

I wish I could just win the lottery and then money would be one less thing to worry about.

Yes, people will pay you to drive their car across country, which is usually cheaper for them than putting it on a transport truck.
