Ummm, I have NEVER had anyone "bugging me" to buy them a gift (except my own kids when they were under 8 years of age). Your entire relationship sounds exceedingly needy and co-dependent. Not healthy.
Also, I did not call, nor did I receive (or even expect to receive) contact from my best friends on NYE or Christmas.
We do not feel the need to have constant contact. That would be suffocating.
