Also ask about strike dates. Not just strikes at points of departure and destination, but along the way. Transportation strike happens very often in Italy and happens at all levels -- national, regional, or local -- but luckily, is always announced ahead of time.

That's a good point for the OP. Check the ticket you receive, then RE-check. Make sure dates, seats, other info is correct. If more than one ticket make sure the seats are next/near to one another.

Leave nothing to an expectation of it being right. It usually is, but the old saying... 'Trust, but verify'

I think the only high speed trains that do not always require reservations is the German ICE (but I think it may have changed now.. last time I was there was in 2008-2009.)

If you'll be traveling by train frequently, get a Eurail pass.. it's worth it even if it costs slightly more since you don't need to wait in line to buy tickets every time you switch trains.. just show the conductor your pass! However, some high speed trains that require reservations (i.e. TGV) will also limit the # of people who use Eurail passes so beware.

People use to take bus or car.
This is the bus company:Hacemos tu viaje en autobús más fácil - ALSA
and the train:Passengers - Timetables

Thanks. Is there one rail or train pass that i can use for all my trips within Spain? Basically, a ticket that i can purchase for a time frame to use on the rail to travel within Spain. That seems to be more convenient for the traveler and the rail if they can do that. No need to buy multiple tickets for every city(Seville, Valencia, Granada, and Barcelona) that i want to travel to. I believe they have one for Europe, but not sure about just one for traveling within Spain? Thanks again.

Yep --- called Eurail Spain Pass, but only certain cities, see map attached.
While in Spain, if you plan on Portugal, make sure you add form the start.
Do not expect the rides to be a scenic route.
In most cases, it is utterly boring ...
Akin to where you live ....
Madrid to Barcelona, Seville, Bilbao, Malaga, Cordova, Zaragosa with RENFE Train Tickets

Thanks. Funny that you mention this. Earlier tonight, i stopped by my friend's house and he mentioned the same thing. I have everything planned out now for the cities that i plan to travel. Also, i checked out a site:

TripMasters.com: Customize Flexible Vacation Packages to Europe, Asia, Latin America, Hawaii, Caribbean, Mexico

You can do packages which includes hotel accomodations and train rides.

Just curious. Anyone ride the AVE train in Spain? What was your experience like? Did you put your luggage on below your seat or something for fear of theft? Any tips or suggestions that i need to be aware of when riding this high speed train? Thanks.
