Help Mr. Wizzard !!! I need advise on my 85 Toy X cab 4x4. My steering got so sloppy I replaced it with a junkyard box that was no better ! Question is can I screw the adjuster stud in all the way and lock it with a plug ?
The adjuster is in so far that the lock nut has only one thread to hang on to.
How far can these be adjusted ? I don't have the bones for a rebuilt unit and the used ones may all be trashed ?
maybe its not the box. check your tie rod ends. You can find out pretty easy what part of your steering has the slop. have a buddy turn your steering wheel while you look at the linkage to make sure that the steering box itself has the slop. if i couldn't help you out go get a rebuilt one. it is your steering and that is a big deal.
It's the steering box. I turned the screw in as far as I can while still leaving just enough threads for the lock nut. Can this adjuster screw be screwed in any farther ? Maybe I can use a penetrating thread locker product and not worry about the lock nut.
