if I don't take my mom's(RIP) 2011 Toyota RAV 4 or one of my brother's cars to replace my 1992 Toyota tercel (we're deciding what to do as we're busy with the court probate process) I was considering a Toyota Yaris which seems like the equivalent of the Tercel
Browsing the Toyota website I notice the speedometer and gauges are in the center, not at the left side as is customary. In other words the Yaris gauges sit where the clock is on my '92 tercel
has anyone ever driven one? would this be hard to get used to?
From everything I can gather, it is almost as good as the Honda fit, but less versatile.
Read any real test of the Yaris, and the proper conclusion is that it costs almost as much as a Fit but is clearly inferior. The Yaris, in spite of good reliability, has never been recommended by Consumer Reports. The Yaris doesn't handle well, it is slow, cheap inside, and isn't comfortable. It is cheap, and has good fuel economy.
I rented one... 4 door, I coule unluck all 4 doors from the driver seat.
I disliked it, but more of the style of the car, it was slow. Oddly enough, flirting and joking with the girl at the counter I got upgraded to a Focus, and was blown away by power, etc... They seem overpriced. And if you are driving a 92 Tercel, anything from 2005 or newer will seem amazing.
I got to agree about the yaris - Look else where. I would look at the New Ford Focus or the Chevy Cruze. If you are looking to get a Japanese car how about the 2012 Versa or the Honda Fit?
