I'm curious to know which of these cities have the more, "Texas" flavor?

When I think of Texas I think of cowboy hats, boots, jeans. I think rodeo and pick-up trucks. Country-western music, beer or whiskey (over "cocktails"), and black coffee (over latte's)

Sure, I know a lot of that is stereotypical and Texas has more to offer but which of the three cities mentioned are closest to my image?

(I put down "other" as another option. If marked, which "other" city are you thinking?)

Which city name summons that image in name the most? In my opinion Dallas.

Which is most like you describe? In my opinion Houston.

Ive had the pleasure (and I mean it because I really like the place) of spending lots of time (one week a month) in Houston working. People dont seem ashamed to wear whatever they want. If people want to wear jeans and boots to work, they do it. I havent seen too many hats however. People also seem more intersted in country music and country bars down there than they do in Dallas (for sure) or Austin (that Ive seen-but Im not 100% on that).

Houston has one of the best rodeo's in the country. I dont even think Dallas has a rodeo. Mesquite has a rodeo, but Dallas doesnt want its name associated with it.

The bottom line is this:

Dallas is too pretentous to go for the cowboy image. Thats all in Fort Worth which is more country than Houston, Dallas and Austin combined.

Austin is too elitist to allow the cowboy image to really sink in. Outside Austin is a different story.

That is why my vote definately goes to Houston without a doubt.

Houston is very "cowboy-ish" from when I went there, and I loved it. Of course, not everyone wears cowboy boots and stuff but I did notice many people who were- especially at the rodeo. Austin is more like LA than a Southern city. I haven't really been to Dallas but it's always struck me as being more of a white-collar place.

If we're talking about which city exemplifies Texas the best, I would actually say either Dallas or San Antonio.

As for personal preference, Austin all the way. I guess because it's not 100% Texas! It's got the cowboy influence for sure, but there's also the Spanish twist as well as something else.
