The novelty of living in DFW wore off after a handful of years, and it got to the point where I hated the weather from June-September.

The heat and humidity suck. You spend a good 3+ months going from air conditioned house to air conditioned car to air conditioned job/mall/restaurant, and damn near every outdoor activity in the summer revolves around a body of water. The dearth of scenery doesn't help, either.

I honestly don't foresee myself ever voluntarily living in Texas again, but if for some reason it does end up on the radar, El Paso is about the only place I would consider living. Because of the humidity, the eastern 1/2-2/3 of the state is a hard pass.
I think folks from coastal CA are going to find the weather a step or two down in most of the rest of the country (north or south). And most of the South / Midwest / Plains just isn't going to have much in the way of scenery once you're west of Appalachia, except in the Ozarks.

This is just what most of America is.

Glad you are enjoying! You are gonna see the worst weather of the year over the next month or two, but have some pretty days in between. If you have a little time, walk through the WT campus, it is worth a few minutes of time. The museum at WT is really good and worth a visit too. Sometime in the fall or closer to Christmas maybe, they have a free night at the museum with some productions put on by some of the schools around. They only charge a donation to the food back to enter and the whole museum is open. It is way worth the time.

This is also the time of year lots of folks begin walking in their neighborhoods, it is real nice to see some faces and say hello. Try the park by the high school, some call it the "duck park", there also is a neat little one by the swimming pool just south of Reeves-Hinger Elementary. There is a 3rd park in the Hunsley neighborhood that has a nice concrete foot path.

Again, welcome to the area!

So the OP hasn’t responded but the question was geared to opinions of where to live in Texas, not the “ let me tell you what I don’t like about Texas thread”. Glad you found a place you like; Colorado is beautiful or at least the western part is. The thing about Texas is that it has so many regions and folks like yourself focus on one. Yes, DFW lacks mountains but has many beautiful rolling areas in the outskirts. The hill country has amazing scenic areas as well as two major metro areas (Austin &’ San Antonio) to east. Want pine forests, East Texas might be for you. We got almost 400 miles of coast lines with some beautiful beaches and coastal towns (their beautiful because we got them).
Want white sand and crystal clear water, take a cruise from Galveston to the Caribbean. Don’t like the humidity, go west Texas around Alpine, Fort Davis or El Paso; there you’ll get your scenery. Granted, everything is not centered around DFW, buts it’s still Texas.
Sounds like your good where you are, I don’t foresee us wanting you back either.
