Welcome to the area! When it warms up a bit, make sure and check out Palo Duro Canyon, and downtown will have farmer's market many summer weekends, as well as a nice parade around July 4th.

This is a nice part of the Panhandle, glad you came down!

These areas you have mentioned are overrun with people. You can’t really find that kind of land in those areas. We don’t really have tornadoes in central Texas. We just lost power and heat for two days, most of us lost water as well. Our state lost power partially because our utilities can’t support the amount of people that are already here. It takes me 20 minutes to get to the bank that is a mile from my house. I know you have already decided to come here but please don’t. We have too many people, as a native I can barely afford to live here because of all the rich people who come here. I know your username is lonestaratheart, but most of you who come here don’t even learn our state song or clap that goes along with it.

"Deep in the Heart of Texas" is not the State Song. That would be Texas Our Texas, and it is a hymn, so there's no clapping involved.

Here's a good version of the national anthem of Texas.

Apparently folks who already live here don't know our state song either...

Texas has its own pledge to the state flag, too.
Here are the lyrics to Texas Our Texas: Texas Our Texas - The Lone Star State Song

I notice the OP hasn't been back since the day after she made the original post. FWIW, I made a similar move a little over 20 years ago, and if I had the chance to do it all over again I would not do it. The novelty of living in DFW wore off after a handful of years, and it got to the point where I hated the weather from June-September.

The heat and humidity suck. You spend a good 3+ months going from air conditioned house to air conditioned car to air conditioned job/mall/restaurant, and damn near every outdoor activity in the summer revolves around a body of water. The dearth of scenery doesn't help, either.

I honestly don't foresee myself ever voluntarily living in Texas again, but if for some reason it does end up on the radar, El Paso is about the only place I would consider living. Because of the humidity, the eastern 1/2-2/3 of the state is a hard pass.
