Almost 62,000 new cases were reported Tuesday, shattering the previous highest tally of 55,220 new cases on 2 July.
Almost 10,200 in Texas alone - first place followed closely by Florida.

Even two weeks ago, I would have thought the idea of Texas canceling high school football would be impossible.

Containment can't be done, we have too many freedoms. You can have freedom or safety, not both. It just has to burn through the state like a brushfire and be done. The sooner the better.

1) The rest of the world is showing us that containment can be done to where contact tracing and localized lockdowns are all that's needed. Most countries, if they went on lockdowns at all, were on shorter lockdowns than most states here, but they didn't have a populace that thinks they're smarter than lifetime experts and flaunted them.

2) You're making a false dichotomy with safety and freedom. Enlightenment era platitudes aside, the two function independent of each other with a well-educated population and in cultures that haven't normalized pathological narcissism.

3) The intensity of the bushfire matters. The hotter and faster it burns, the more permanent damage it does.

4) The bushfire analogy only works assuming a lifetime immunity. We don't know that yet.

We're not shutting down again. We destroyed our economy and we're right back where we were two months.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s office is no longer taking in bodies of those who have died from COVID-19. Now, plans are in place to get some help from local funeral homes and another morgue trailer.

Nueces Co. Judge Barbara Canales told KRIS 6 News because of the unexpected spike in novel coronavirus-related deaths, room is running out at the medical examiner’s office.

Canales said that's where funeral homes can help with storage.

“So what happens when you die at home and you were COVID-19 positive? The funeral homes being able to take that duty on is very welcoming,” she said. “I would imagine the funeral homes will be playing a big role in the upcoming weeks.”

Nueces County currently has one morgue trailer, but Canales also is asking FEMA for another trailer, along with supplies and technology to keep it up-and-running. The move comes after the medical examiner reached out and shared their concern about the situation.

Amen! This is not going to help closing down. People then get crazy when it opens up. It did no good to keep them sheltered at home.

People who are compromised need to stay home. The rest need to get on with life.
