My 5 daughter needs a pediatric neurologist to care for her. Is there one in Abilene. We have one of the top 10 in the world were I live and want to make sure it would be safe to move to Abilene. I just find it hard to believe she would be able to get the same care as she does at the Medical University where we live.

I see Dr. Russell Dickerson. He is an EXCELLENT neurologist -- the best I've ever seen, and I've seen docs at Mass. General and Tufts in Boston. You would have to call his office to find out if he treats children. I'm not sure if we're allowed to post phone numbers and such here but I found him easily when I Googled him just now.

We have a children's hospital here that's part of the Children's Miracle Network. It's called Meek Children's Hospital. That would be another good resource for you.

Is it "safe" to move here? I would think so. But you can't expect a small city to have the resources of a major university's teaching hospital. That doesn't mean, though, that there isn't good medical care here. I've been pleased, and I have a serious, systemic disease (Lupus).

If you need a research-based facility, UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and Texas Tech's University Medical Center in Lubbock are just a 2 1/2 drive from Abilene.
