But there are no quality hotels in The Woodlands on par with The Galleria. Plus The Woodlands is far from the rest of the city, while the Galleria is in the center of the metro. People don't only just shop when the visit Houston, they visit the museums in the Museum District (far from The Woodlands), eat in the nice restaurants up the street along Montrose and in Midtown, Heights, et al. (The Woodlands has all the typical suburban chains), etc. This is why despite having to fly to IAH instead of Hobby, tourists will decide to stay close to the city, especially in the most luxurious hotel as their budget would allow.

Dallas' Forty Five Ten to open River Oaks outpost before Thanksgiving

"Dallas-based luxury retailer Forty Five Ten plans to open its River Oaks District location on Nov. 23, just as the holiday shopping season kicks into high gear.

The 3,300-square-foot store is the company’s first outside of North Texas and will be a smaller version of a new 37,000-square-foot flagship location in downtown Dallas.

Forty Five Ten River Oaks will feature collections for women and men, the company’s Rare Beauty concept, a book department, and a gift and home area.

“We have been looking at the Houston market for almost a decade,” Brian Bolke, Forty Five Ten’s president and co-founder, said in a Nov. 21 statement. “I love Houston and we have so many friends and clients here; it was just a matter of finding the right location that was authentic to our brand.”

Reminds me of Neiman-Marcus c. 1969!

KT, are you referring to the opening of the Houston Galleria N-M store ca. 1969? That was a cool event. Recently, I have read that store's sales are 2nd in the N-M chain, after the Dallas NorthPark store. Which would put it ahead of the downtown Dallas N-M store. (I give multi kudos to the downtown Dallas store and I wish the downtown Houston store were still alive. I just point this out to give some perspective on the current situation.)

I can only hope that Forty Five Ten will be successful enough in Houston to expand its space. That remains to be seen, of course. In the mean time, the new downtown Dallas store looks to be a terrific addition to that scene, adjacent to the N-M store and the Joule Hotel. Very cool.

Elements should be added to The Miracle Mile which is the portion of all that retail along Lovers Lane east of the Dallas Parkway in University Park. Think of this boutique as the poor man's version of 4510 but for Lover's Lane. This portion of retail in University Park is difficult to keep up with.

This strip has quite a rich heritage of luxury retail. Brian Bolke mentions it often as has Ray Washburne of Highland Park fame.

Why isn' t Weir's furniture listed in the Knox Street luxury retail? It has been long established, been the sole anchor over the years for the area even after it got seedy, and said to be the main reason for the recovery of the Knox-Henderson.

J. Hilburn is locating in Inwood Village. Elaine Turner is headed to Plaza at Preston Center.

Being so close to Love Field, the scale of the above mentioned two shopping districts is headed upward.

I've read that the architecture of The Crescent in Uptown Dallas pays tribute to Galveston, Texas. People forget that before Houston and Dallas, Galveston, before the hurricane destroyed it, was the second wealthiest city in the nation and the luxury retail center of the south.

As Houston is located north 48 miles inland from Galveston, the Woodlands is located further north 30 miles from Houston. I'm arguing that the luxury retail in the Houston area in the future isn't going to be split between the Houston Galleria and the River Oaks District, but between Uptown Houston and The Woodlands.

There is a similar situation going on between Dallas and Southlake in North Texas with the latter of those two benefiting from its close proximity to DFW airport. Dallas benefits from Love Field.
