Hi. Thanks for checking out my thread. I'm a 26 yr. old male moving to the DFW area. I just got a job as a district manager for an outside sales company, and my territory and all my clients are within the DFW area and I was told I can live anywhere I want in the area. And personally, for the first couple years I want to live either in Downtown Dallas or Downtown Fort Worth because I'm young, single, and I figured I will probably spend most my time in the downtown areas. So, based on who I am and the things I like to do, which one would I like better? Here's a bit about me:

-I'm not a club person, but I love bars and pubs.
-I'm a huge foody I love trying new restaurants and going to local annual food and beverage events
-I love a good urban enviornment
-A great nightlife with great ambiance where the city is lit up and comes alive.
-I also like a clean enviornment where everything around me looks fairly new as oppose to rundown.
-I'm a big sports fan, and anywhere there's a good sports bar I can catch my favorite teams I'd love to go.
-I do like country music, and don't know much about Texas country but wouldn't mind going to a few country bars and getting to know it
- I love parks, museums, and zoo's
-Also, and most importantly, the people. I want to be around friendly people who are more laid back as oppose to snobbish. I'm wanting to meet new people and make new friends

Also, the cost of living and crime are a huge factor as well

Any help I can get from anybody would be GREATLY appreciated I'm visiting the area next month to look around. Thank you so much!

Don't know about Fort Worth, but if bright lights, cold beer, and sweet ladies is what you want then consider Uptown Dallas. Right next to downtown it's the happening place for your goals. And just across Turtle Creek you can find the Round Up Saloon, and a few wiminz.

I know there's Billy Bob's which is a huge honky tonk in Fort Worth.

Dallas more than Ft. Worth

Dallas. Fort Worth has good nightlife, too. Just not like Dallas.

Short answer: Dallas

Younger city, more centrally located, more to do...

Dallas. So many to choose, and outstanding local neighborhood bars. Fort Worth can't compete with my list.
Oak Lawn: The Grapevine, Windmill Lounge, Meddlesome Moth
Uptown: Prime Bar, The Ginger Man, The Social House(new but I love the building), Kung Fu Saloon, 6th Street, Uptown has A LOT I just named my favorites, and you can ride the McKinney AVE Trolley for free to a lot of them
Deep Ellum: Deep Ellum Brewing Company, Buzzbrews, Double Wide
Greenville AVE: Libertine Bar, The Gin Mill, Barcadia

-I'm a huge foody I love trying new restaurants and going to local annual food and beverage events
Dallas: Bishop Arts District, Uptown, and Oak Lawn neighborhoods have great restaurants
Quote:

Focus your search on Dallas proper specifically these zipcodes: (75219, 75201, 75204, 75207) which include Downtown, Uptown, Oak Lawn, Turtle Creek, and the Design District. These areas are the most walkable in all of North Texas! Uptown is by far the best area to meet others in their 20's.

That's Uptown for sure. Nowhere else compares
Quote:

Uptown. Lots of people walking around, and mingling keep crime away.
Quote:

Dallas tons of sports bars
Quote:
-I do like country music, and don't know much about Texas country but wouldn't mind going to a few country bars and getting to know it
Dallas has great country bars: The World Famous Gilley's Dallas, Adair's Saloon, Toby Keith's Bar, and of course The Round Up (a gay bar that is hetero friendly, also a good bar to spot celebrities)
Quote:
- I love parks, museums, and zoo's
Fort Worth's Zoo is better, but the Dallas Zoo is catching up with them, and definitely check out the Dallas World Aquarium. Dallas Parks: The Klyde Warren Deck Park, Katy Trail, White Rock Lake

Dallas - DFW Harlem Shake - YouTube

You can find that in both. Just don't tell people from Fort Worth you live in Dallas.

Expect to pay $1.25-$1.50 a sq foot for a nice apartment in a fun SAFE neighborhood. Efficiency apartments start at $700 a full 1 bedroom is at least $900

I think Dallas is the best place for young proffesionals, it just offers so many more amenities. Have fun on the trip, and good luck on the move

Fort Worth

Dallas may rub you the wrong was as being pretentious, especially in Dallas' more urban neighborhoods where all the action is. Its also dirtier & has a higher crime rate than Fort Worth.

OP, don't let snowflakes from the sticks and the burbs scare you away from the "Big Bad City" (Dallas). Dallas Is a very clean city, in fact most people say it's almost too sterile looking.

This is silly!

Dallas has some very wealthy people, and has very well dressed young professionals in its Urban Core. Some people may take that as pretentious, but it's just the way things are here. If you take it that way it's a personal problem, and not a negative reflection on people in Dallas. I'm happy people take the time to look presentable in public, and it sure beats the sloppy slacker look in other areas...

Comparing city-wide crime statistics between cities the size of Dallas and Fort Worth is pointless. The crime statistics that are of importance are the ones for the various neighborhoods/zip codes the OP will be interested in, and Uptown, DT, Oak Lawn, Turtle Creek will have comparable levels of crime to DT Fort Worth. Everyone knows the areas to avoid in Dallas and Fort Worth, and the OP has no reason to go to those places. Thus, the chances of being a victim of crime are low in either city.

Dallas is not dirty! The very few run-down apartments left are being bulldozed at a rapid pace, and are being replaced by luxury apartments and condos.

You had your one sided opinion of Fort Worth, let someone have their one sided opinion of Dallas...

I actually didn't say much about Fort Worth, and I purposely didn't say anything negative. I corrected false lies(not opinions) about Dallas, and put the facts in perspective. People get away with saying my clean safe city is dangerous and dirty when that is far from true.
