I have been wanting to move to Texas for many years! So now im going to do it. Been hearing a lot of good things about Brownsville.
Any help would be great. Advice tips ect....
I know i need to learn spanish. ONE i want to be bilingual! I dont think it will be a huge culture shock for me. I am from a town with plenty of Hispanics(plenty is a good thing btw). I even worked a Mexican restraunt(LOVED IT!!). We have on every block(LOved that too!). And the QC is about the same size(250k ppl, Metro area is 350k+ ppl) My concern is "border wars" and safety. But not too much...Beause the QC actually has a higher crime rate i think.(QC=Quad Cities Moline Ill)
I am not rich so need cheap housing/ renting... Want to Know about bus lines(dont drive), employment(i am a looking for Bartending Job).

Whoever told you good things about Brownsville lied. Lol. You might as well move to Mexico.

McAllen/Edinburgh/Pharr area is A LOT nicer.

For bartending jobs, there are lots of those over on South Padre Island not far East of Brownsville. It is a popular tourist destination and has some of the nicest beaches in Texas.

A few facts about Brownsville: Poverty level is 33%, median annual household income $32,131 - much lower then the state average, crime rate is less then the national average, housing values are extremely low. Median rent in 2009 was $571. See more demographics data here https://www.city-data.com/city/Brownsville-Texas.html

The Mexico Drug War map indicates that Matamoros has fewer problems then many other border towns. http://www.diegovalle.net/drug-war-map.html

I am a white guy who speaks Spanish, and I love Brownsville. The people are nice, the food is good (if you like Mexican food), and the best beaches in Texas are right there. Even though the other side of the border is iffy, you won't feel much of that in Brown Town. As far as going for a bartending job..........
