Houston wasn't building more houses than the entire state of California a while back? Houston isnt one of the top metropolitan areas for apartment construction? Houston isn't currently undergoing a major retail boom? Houston isn't building any new entertainment options for all the new residents? and Houston definitely didn't just open two new light rail lines..

nope.. Houston clearly isn't doing any of the things you mentioned.. it would be insane to think that Houston could accomplish such feats, especially amidst the current oil downturn.. yeah we've slowed down a bit from our recent monumental successes, but DFW still hasn't been able to catch up to an "oil stunted" Houston..
Defensive much?

There is reason to believe DFW is just beginning to enter the early stage of best economic period of its history.
Definitely no "slight" against Houston...

Don't act like you sit back and let the Houston homers slander DFW... Sorry I don't take misinformed slandering from people about my city on a forum where many people come to get information..

Falling Oil Prices Threaten Houston Building Boom - WSJ
Quote:
As the energy sector boomed in recent years, developers flocked to Houston, so much so that one-sixth of all the office space under construction in the entire U.S. is in the metropolitan area of the Texas city.

But now, the need for more offices is drying up, thanks to a drop in oil prices that has spun energy companies from an outlook of optimism and growth to anxiety and cutbacks. Oil prices have fallen by more than 50% since June.

Oil crash may kill the Texas housing boom - Jan. 23, 2015
Quote:
Houston, you may have a housing problem.
Texas is the heart of America's energy industry, which is currently under assault by tumbling oil prices.
The days of $100 oil are gone -- maybe forever -- and that means oil companies are cutting jobs -- thousands of them.

so Houstons small business employment fell less than one percent. OMG, Houston is crashing!!! of course we aren't going to be riding as high on that monsterous wave of success from the past few years. that was a period of monumental growth that even Dallas hasn't seen in over 30 years.. its easy to write "negative" outlooks when things have been so freaking positive around Houston.. like the article you linked said, 1/6th of the total amount of office space under construction in the entire country was under development in Houston. of course that type of insane growth can't be sustained forever..
