We live in Conroe which is about 40 minutes north of Houston. It use to have a small town feel and now it does not. The schools are not good, and saftey is now a concern as well. We are looking to move somewhere in Texas that is a small town in a rural area with a good school district with out a lot of illegal immigrants. Please provide any suggestions you have.

The schools where we live are great (town of 10,000), but I have no idea how many kids are undocumented. Frankly, I don't really care. I'm more concerned that the school has good teachers and administration and a welcoming social environment.

Hallsville, TX or Harleton, TX. Those are the best school districts around here and if there are illegals they are hiding. These towns are as country as you can get. Small.

I will checked those out. They look good. We are wanting to stay under 150,000. We will have mostly cash to pay for whatever we get after selling our place, and prefer not to go into debt (Dave Ramsey fans...LOL) We are considering out of state too. Al, Ar, Does anyone know anything about those either???

Lindale, Whitehouse, Bullard just outside Tyler under 150,000. Or how about private schools? Tyler great larger town has 4 great private schools.

Harper, TX has some of the best schools in the state and the people can't be beat! Close enough to Kerrville, Fredericksburg for everyday shopping and an hour or so from SA.

I agree with the suggestions for areas to the south of Tyler. Cherokee County has some very small, but good districts. You could live 25-40 south of Tyler, and yet still be close enough for larger town amenities.

It has the 8th best school in Texas. It is a beautiful town located in the Texas Hill Country. There football team won the state champioship in 2011. They have a great town square with good stores, art galleries, and restaurants. Enjoy !

Please forgive the grammar and spelling.[i.e. championship/Their football team] I wrote this before I went to sleep last night. I was very tired.
