Interesting division point, you mention MM (hastening to add I am not suggesting dividing up our beloved State of Texas! LOL)

TReb, Muhnay,

Though this whole discussion is pure fantasy, my choice of border is purely utilitarian. Other than a nice climate and a scenic mountain backdrop, EP really doesn't have a lot to offer Texas.

Being so isolated (90% of the population of Texas is on or east of I-35) El Paso has developed an identity problem. Removed from the rest of Texas and not part of old or New Mexico has kind of forced EP to be its own little country.

The mountain time zone line seems like a perfect cutoff point. New Mexico would maintain and Texas would gain time zone integrity. Texas would only give up a very small patch of desert wasteland and EP.

There is no way Texas should ever give up the Guadeloupe or Davis mountains or the Big Bend. See, I'm not being greedy here I just want to alleviate El Paso's identity problem.

The only thing now is would New Mexico have us. LOL

On a side note; looking at the time zone map from Muhnay I noticed that the zone line in Texas is at the western most point for the east boundary of MST. It would seem that when dividing up the zones, the line should have continued to extended straight down from the southeast corner of New Mexico to the Rio.

I actually suggest not changing a thing.

Dad gum!

I don't agree totally with all your divisions -- notable things I would personally change -- but they are sure as heck interesting and well done! Good job!

How did you make this map? I am sure there are some others of us that would like to try a hand at the same!

Good one, FT!

http://weblogs.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/politics/blog/texas%20map.gif (broken link)

I edited it in ms paint.

btw, Thanks, I figured I'd try my hand at it...

I tried to make sure each " state " had atleast one major city although that was pretty hard out west...

Texas could just invade the surrounding states in a "manifest destiny" style Imperialistic move and pretty much take over the central part of the US. Grabbing up the valuable Gulf Coast regions as well as the bread basket of America, it would instantly be one of the five most powerful nations on Earth.

Zing!

There are some academics that have looked at re-dividing the entire US into more 'reasonable' borders...it ain't gonna happen, but it is interesting to think about.
