Hey y'all,

I am looking for a smaller sized (20,000 or less) town in the South for me and my boyfriend to move to and start a family. We are currently living in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and both are from Mississippi. We want a nice Southern town that not to many Yankees have moved to... so East Texans please help out!

You'd best just stay in Mississippi! Do you fly the rebel flag from your front door?

If you have that kind of attitude, then it would be better to stay in Mississippi. We don't need anti-North / anti-anything folks here. We don't want the rebel flag / old south / confederacy mindset.

WOW. An attitude like that will not be welcome anywhere in Texas, at least not by anyone who is even slightly evolved. Besides, probably 80 percent (guestimate) of Texas is immigrants and transplants. Stay in Miss.

Maybe I should explain first.... basically I would like a town that has retained its Southern culture and charm because it has not experienced much growth and transplants form the North. Towns like Cary, NC or suburbs of Atlanta or Greenville, SC or the SC coast or Northwest Arkansas are not very Southern feeling anymore because of all the transplants. I am not anti-north, just would like a town that is still Southern....

Ogun and Squirl- thank y'all for answering my question (like others did not)! I'll be sure to check out the places y'all mentioned!

And to FiddleDeeD- I AM evolved? It's not an attitude, just a preference I would like for my future home to have...

And by the way, y'all act like I am the only one who calls a Northerner a Yankee or does not want to live around them! No harm intended, just stating my preferences!

Okay, so what's so wrong with northeners? What is the bad influence that they have (on the south) that you seem to be hinting at?

You're welcome. btw, I was born in New York, so don't run me off with a shotgun when you move to Jefferson!

Not a bad influence, it's just that many places in the South that they have moved to do not feel Southern anymore, and they do not have the same culture as us. Cary, NC could be dropped in Ohio or NJ and fit right in! Not exactly what I am looking for... I want a place with still mainly Southerners!

And Squirl- I will be sure to bring my shotgun AND rebel flag to rid the town of you (seems to be what some think I actually will do!)
