In your opinion, what is the best place to live in Tennessee?

We need a bit more information about you and what YOU want out of a new home town to answer that for ya. I could give you my short and quick answer and say the Tri-Cities area, but that is what is right for me, might not be for you. What is important to you in a place to live?

CandRach2,

I have an idea that just may work. Put a map on a wall, throw a dart at it and move where the dart lands. Then the decision is made where to move to.

Well, I really like where I am (Cookeville). I also like Knoxville quite a lot. Chattanooga may or may not be good; I don't know enough to decide. Hermitage has Panera (I think it's Hermitage anyway). Yum. Far west of Nashville seems too flat to me and kind of like a ripoff in terms of it still being Tennessee but not a lot of mountains/big hills/gorgeousness.

Pam & Bill,
I get it, I'm asking too many questions about the same thing. The map idea isn't a bad idea though.

East is east and west is west, but the middle is the best...

Of course, your opinion may differ!

In all seriousness, there are a lot of "best" places here in Tennessee, and all it means is that I need more houses...

If I had absolutely no ties to Tennessee whatsoever, I'd probably find Chattanooga quite charming. A funky little city with its own agenda and it's quite close to CLT ATL and Nashville.

I live in Chattanooga now, and I can vouch that it's a great city... and is a very nice size with about 600,000 in the metro (not too small, not big either).

Also, if you're inclined toward Middle TN, check out Hendersonville. It's along the shores of Old Hickory Lake, about fifteen miles north of downtown Nashville. It's a very nice community with good schools. It is clean and has a healthy economy.

East, West, and Middle Tennessee are each very different from each other. Tell us what you like to DO, when you're not at work, and what you're interested in and what you want to see when you drive down the road, then we can give you an honest opinion on which part of the state is "best".
