Hi...I would like to hear from people who have lived in Eastern Tennessee and could comment on their pick of the top 3 towns.

Thanks.

I'd love to help, but that's a pretty vague request. Top 3 towns for what? Farming? Tourism? Shopping? Wages? Traffic? Crime? Cost of living?

Since the OP hasn't given us a clue what s/he is looking for, here are my criteria for what I'd consider to be a "good" town:

Excellent schools
Proximity to a good airport
Inexpensive housing
Low taxes
Wide choice in restaurants
Beautiful scenery
Low crime

With that in mind, here are what I consider to be the 3 best towns in East Tennessee:
  1. Knoxville
  2. Maryville
  3. Fountain City (yeah I know it's part of Knoxville, but it's almost like a separate town--which it used to be a long time ago)

I'd give honorable mentions to Oak Ridge and Johnson City. Oak Ridge has high property taxes, and Johnson City is pretty isolated--it costs a fortune to fly in/out of its little airport.

This sounds pretty good. Depending on what you're looking for, Farragut could replace Fountain City in the #3 slot.

Personally, I don't like the traffic, prefer smaller cities, but that is just me.
I figure a vague question expected the same in a reply.

From a visitors point of view-me.

Elizabethton
Shady Valley-not really a town but beautiful nonetheless

This is in Virginia but still is close to TN.
Abingdon, Virginia

Bristol, Kingsport and Johnson City. (Tri-Cities metro in extreme northeast Tennessee).

I guess because I live here?

Knoxville and Chattanooga are nice. I have been to and through Knoxville several times, but only to Chattanooga once in June of 1994 when we went to the aquarium. I liked it down there.
