I'm currently living in a smallish town with my elderly parents following my mother's stroke. I moved here from California last fall but I haven't gone to the DMV here to get a license yet. I'm not sure how permanent this move will be.

My question is how often people in these parts get called for jury duty. My parents have been here for six years and never received a summons, but that could be because they're over 70.

My folks have been in East TN for over 20 years and I think they both got called once out of those years. And that was in a small rural town in East TN (Greeneville). So, I don't think you have much to worry about.

My folks live in Rogersville which is a very small town. My dad has been called about 6 times already in the past 6 years, Mom never and I have been here 10, I have yet to be called. Go figure.

I've been here 24 years and have never been called for jury duty. As far as I know, it's a random draw, like anywhere.

I've lived in Tennessee over 20 years and have been called to jury duty only once. I happened to be studying in France at the time so I didn't have to do it.

We got new driver's licenses and tags over a year ago and haven't been called, yet. Of course, now that I've said that, I should expect a summons at any moment.

It's not just based on getting a driver's license here. It's also based on owning property and something else, but I can't remember. Not sure if it's registering to vote.
Anyway, My grandmother has only been called once and she was well into her 70's at the time (she's lived in TN all her life). My mom has been called 3 times. I think it was once for criminal and twice for civil (which they draw separately, at least in Knoxville). My dad was called once or twice. I've never been called up.
A man I work with was called up for the first time and he is probably in his 70's. He had to check in about once a week for a month, but they never had any cases for the people he was selected with so he never really had to serve. This was in Johnson City.

Oh, well, we are both registered to vote but don't own a home. That's kind of strange. We didn't own in Florida but I was called twice. Fortunately, I had a child under five and was excused both times.

I was called once in California when I was a student going to college...

Then, twice in Boise, one a civil matter the other a criminal matter.
We owned a house there, and had four little kids at the time.

We've been here in MN for over 10 years and haven't been called once.
We own our house here, and have a 7 year old.

Thanks for your replies. I feel better. I just moved from Los Angeles where, if you have a driver's license, you get called once every three years.
