I just got the school news letter email. It said for registration day to bring 2 proofs of residency, ok, but then it says they are unsure of the registration fee just yet so bring cash or checkbook, WHAT?!! We have to pay to sign our kids up for school?? This is so crazy to me. Does anyone know about how much it usually costs?

Where are you located? I would imagine it varies from system to system. Have you tried calling the school?

Thanks for the link alleycat! $15 isn't alot of money but it is when you don't have any. This is on top of all the stuff we have to buy which does cost more then the $25 they say it does.

FutureTexan, it is for Rutland. If you go to the link alleycat sent me, I guess it is a new thing they are doing.

Thanks again.

It must be a new thing, My son went to Rutland from August-January but then we moved to Hendersonville, We didn't have to pay for Beech Elementary either...

I believe I always had reg. fees too. If you are low income or your child is on free or reduced lunch there are generally fee waivers.

Are you sending your child out of your zoned school area? That might be the reason. In our county, if you send the child to the school for which you are zoned, it doesn't cost. If you want them to go to a different school out of your zone, you have to provide the transportation and pay a fee.

haha going to public school in Tennessee is a pain like that. I remember when we first moved down there my mom wondered where the hell all these "fees" came from, and why WE had to buy all the supplies. it was never like that in Michigan (but then again, it might be now).

No state income tax = paying fees at schools. YMMV.
