Good morning, Sir.
I once lived here
a long, long time ago.
Is it okay
for me to stay
a while before I go
and watch the sun set over the mountain?

And may I see
the big oak tree
that stands high on the hill?
There under it
I used to sit
and feel the evening chill
and watch the sun set over the mountain.

I heard you came
from up in Maine
and moved to Tennessee
where you could rest
and build a nest
for your posterity
and watch the sun set over the mountain.

This house is old,
but I was told
you'd made it good as new.
What I would give
to just relive
a memory or two
and watch the sun set over the mountain.

Your work with wood
is very good.
This porch is really nice.
It's where I first
met Jenny Hurst
and kissed her once or twice,
and watched the sun set over the mountain.

Not far from here
the creek you hear
flows into the Obed.
That's where I cast
for largemouth bass,
caught mud turtles instead
and watched the sun set over the mountain.

The apple tree
that you can see
there just beyond the stile
is where I'd play
on summer days,
then linger for a while
and watch the sun set over the mountain.

That flow'ry mound
of rocky ground
is for my hound dog Joe.
I laid him there
where he could hear
the ev'ning breezes blow
and watch the sun set over the mountain.

Good morning, Sir.
I once lived here
a long, long time ago.
Is it okay
for me to stay
a while before I go
and watch the sun set over the mountain?

Wonderful flow of words leading to a person being able to visually and emotionally follow along. Moving and special.

Excellent.

Kinda reminds me of the line in a Mel Tillis song:

When we're young we wanna get away,
When we're old we wanna go back.
And we spend our lives replacing all the things we leave behind.

Very nice poem Ridgerunner. It was very cold today in our area, but I enjoyed the snow flurries.

Smile What a beautiful tribute to Tennessee and home.

Ridgerunner, I always enjoy your posts so much. You always make us feel exactly what your words suggest.

Little did I know that you were such an accomplished poet. Now, I can understand why your posts are so lyrical.

Thank you for sharing that with us. I think the sentiment can be understood by all of us about the place that we once lived and loved and watched "the sun set over the mountain".

Just lovely.
