Ok I been seeing a lot of growth along the interstate in my life time i've seen a minor league baseball team come to the city. I've seen another 10 story wing added to a already huge hospital thats bigger than 90 percent of any hospital that you would see in Memphis or Nashville. And Now they are revitalizing downtown. But I have one huge problem when i look at downtown Jackson. I see no building even trying to get off the ground besides the New Southern Hotel built in 1923. Jackson probably cant support a 30 story building I agree with that. The City has a trade area population of nearly 400,000 i feel they can support a 15 to 20 story high rise though why isn't this being pushed? Jackson wants to be the economic powerhouse in W Tn I have to agree the city is a force in W tn only besides Memphis. But u don't have anything in the sky to show it.

Highrises only make financial sense in urban areas where very little land is available and land prices are extremely high. If land is abundant and reasonably priced it's much, much less expensive to build out instead of up. That's why suburban areas anywhere in the country usually see companies building office campuses rather than high rise buildings.

You have to remember that anyone investing millions of dollars in a building complex are mainly interested in making it work financially. No one builds a highrise just bacause they think it'll make for a pretty skyline...

Jackson has plenty of undeveloped land -- including in the downtown area. No need for anything over a few (<5) stories.

Besides, can you imagine how ridiculous a 15-20 story building in downtown Jackson would look -- towering over the 2-3 story buildings that are already there?
