I was contacted by a salesman for water softwner that intalls water softners from Charger company. Has anyone on this group had any experience with this company's water softners? He kept saying that it is conditioner and not softner, and that the conditioner is supposed to be better than softner - whatever it means!

If anyone has used Charger company's water softner please share your thoughts. It is not too expensive and costing me about 900 bucks so thinking of installing it. Will appreciate any feedback!

$900 is way too much unless you are getting a softner, R.O. and a few other assorted filters.

You need not go with the large companies like Culligan or Kinetico but if you have a local plumber you trust they can usually get you some good prices.

The first clue is these companies giving prices before even coming to look at the house and seeing how hard the installation would be. They can do this because they are so insanely overpriced they know no matter how hard the install they are still making money off it.

Also, have you had your water tested? Are you on well water or municipal? Until you have the water tested there is no way to know what type of filtration is needed. You may only need a 5 micron sediment filter or you may need the whole ball of wax.

For about $25 you can get a water test kit at Lowes or Homedepot. Don't let the person trying to sell you a filter do your water testing.
