Do not pay $600 for a water softener.

You can get a good quality Fleck 5600 for under $380, that is a delivered price but not installed..

Check your local plumbing shops and home centers to compare units. Make sure you know your monthly water usage so you can get the correct size. Do not wast money on a UV System. RO Systems are nice but they waste up to 90 gallons of water for every 5 gallons produced.

We bought a Kinetico from Superior. Expensive, but worth it. We've never had a problem with it.

To Clarify my post.

A spammer had posted for the OP to contact him and he could have a high quality unit shipped direct for $600. His post has since been deleted.

I just didn't want anyone getting scammed.

How do you gage your water usage if you are on a well?

I am sure there are some inline meter you could install but you can usually just figure on a certain amount depending on your family size. It doesn't have to be exact for getting a softener.

Second question: What is the value in purchasing a two tank (or seperated) unit versus the cabinet style unit, other than easy of maintenance if a part breaks? I was actually looking at the Fleck 5600sxt 24,000 grain unit ($439 for the two part unit and $569 for the cabinet). Cabinet takes up less space, but......
