I have been to the LA Fitness you mentioned when I visit the Tampa St Pete area. We have tons of gym chains out here on the West Coast, LA Fitness is everywhere. They are all the same, and one has to have a comfort level with large corporate owned gyms to enjoy them.

I would personally prefer the type setting you have in Gainesville, the more local owned gym, probably more personable in its approch to fitness and its members. That neighborhood type gym setting. People know one another at least somewhat. A well stocked gym that fills your fitness needs.

Well LA Fitness in Clearwater or anywhere can provide you with that, but again one has to have a comfort level with the approach they have to fitness.

I do not like the large corporate owned gym chains, but its like there is nothing else anymore. They have and are putting everyone out of business. They have numerous sales people and constantly are training someone. These gyms are crowded and the gym members come and go by the day. Very transient membership base. The LA Fitness here on the West Coast cannot even sell a protein drink. Reason being they are afraid of being sued if someone was allergic to the product. That is what I was told when I asked why isn't there a juice bar in their Health Club.

When I visit the Tampa area I end up going to the Golds gyms in St Pete or on Waters Ave in Tampa. I know your up in Clearwater, but look around before joining any club. I also think LA Fitness can be expensive when you add up the yearly bill. The Initiation fee and the monthly payment can total up to alot more than $3 or $400 a year. I don't know if the membership costs are the same nationwide but here in Portland. A one year membership ended up costing $700 and that is without tax since we don't have sales tax. That was the cheapest membership and was only good at the gym joined. They wanted much more to get an All Club membership. I never joined them, and only use them when traveling and I pay a day pass fee. I belong to 24 hour fitness they are just as bad but cheaper. Good Luck, Again check around before buying a membership.
