According to Google Maps it would take 30+ minutes and be 30 something miles. I might be getting a job in St Pete and thought I might want to live there but everyone I know is in Tampa. How bad is the commute for anyone that does it?

It's definitely about a 50 min-60 min ride and way longer than 30 miles. The quickest way to get there is by 275 but that is always backed up in the morning and rush hour so they ride will be longer than and hour.

I would think that would be a hellish commute. I dont' know anyone that could make it in 30 min, especially during the rush hours.

We live in the Citrus Park/Westchase area, but my husband commutes down to St. Petersburg (over by 22nd and 66th) for work every day. He leaves the house around 6:00am and it takes him about 35 minutes in the morning...there's no traffic on Veterans or 275 at that time of day. However, his homebound commute beginning around 3:30pm often takes up to an hour. If he leaves much later than 4:30pm, it's taken him almost 2 hours before. Most of the backup takes place on 275 where all the construction is a mess right before Veterans.

But, coming from Washington D.C., the traffic here is still a piece of cake.

I agree with everything people have already said. We leave near Seminole Heights which is much closer to St Pete than Tampa and my husband works in St Pete right over the Howard Franklin bridge. It takes him 20 minutes to get to work (18 miles) but well over an hour to get home when he leaves at 5pm. There is usually an accident on the bridge every afternoon and the traffic is hell. We considered moving to New Tampa because of good deals on houses out there, but the commute would be far too bad to make it worth it. We won't even consider New Tampa as long as he works in St Pete.

Commute to St Pete New Tampa..... it is one hell of a commute. See if you can find other folks from New Tampa/Wesley Chappel for car pooling... else navigating I-275 during any time is a pain.. I know a couple of friends who used to work for HSN in st pete and reside in new tampa and they quite after 2 months because their quality of life went down so much and they did not feel it was worth it..
