Seems like it should be a quiet, and maybe a bit boring, area at the least.
The crime rate in New Port Richey is 40% higher than Tarpon Springs. It looks depressed from the get-go in most areas due to poor soil quality which makes for browned out lawns mostly seeded with bahia grass. Residents aren't typically much above minimum wage workers (10% of residents have a college degree) or retirees on tight budgets. All in all I find it depressing as do many others. If you're bent on something coastal I would point you toward a town like Englewood to the south or look to the Atlantic side in towns like Titusville, Satellite Beach, Sebastian, Vero Beach or Port St Lucie.

Lots of crime, kind of run down, very “meth town” feel…

Depends where you live.

The Trinity area of New Port Richey is very pretty and newly developed. South of SR 54 is generally newer and nicer.

I see.

I did some research on that area and came across this article:

Less than two years ago, the Leisure Lane and Van Doren Ave area of New Port Richey was full of crime, prostitution, drugs and blight. Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco purchased 45+ parcels of land, demolishing dozens of dilapidated housing structures, continuing the redevelopment of the community, now known as Town & Country Villas. Six homes have been completed with 6 more under construction in partnership with Gramatica SIPS International.
Seems like they're trying to clean up the area. Maybe it's on the upswing?

It is getting better, but incrementally. A lot of the abandoned retail along 19 is being dealt with, taking away a bit of the “post apocalyptic” look that’s been prevalent for several decades.

Get off of 19 and things aren’t much different from what I see.

It's better than in 2010. Still 60% section 8 in my hood. They are getting priced out some thanks to higher rents gents.

Go about 4 miles east and get out of the scum bag hoods.

With all due respect, I know schmo. I was showing that there are very nice areas in New Port Richey.
