If they want an area with families, I'm not so sure this is a good fit. The general population seemed to be older, not a lot of kids or twenty/thirty somethings.

I found Bookelia, Matlacha and St. James City, to be a place I'm glad I went to and checked out, but scratched it off my relocation list.
Can I ask what you didn't like about the pine island area? I'm searching for the same thing and grew up in a very rural area. Something about Cape Coral with all the homes with strip malls...just ahh.

I understand about the convenience part, but I want a quiet relaxed atmosphere like it was when I was a kid.

Where did you end up and are you happy?

We have not moved yet....I'm a manager with a federal agency and the past few years have been difficult for transfers....

Pine Island is a quiet and relaxed area...the lack of beach access, lack of multiple generations, and inconvenience to other areas was a deal breaker for me.

We are focused more on St. Pete, Pass-A-Grille, and the Keys.

You should visit the upper Keys, it may have what you are looking for....quiet, laid back, great people, sunrise and sunset ocean views.....
