I have made myself crazy with applying for jobs in different cities, and now I have to make a decision. I grew up in Northern CA, currently live in Reno, but spent 1-1/2 years in Myrtle Beach, SC 2008-2009. I currently have testing scheduled in Arlington and Dallas, TX but haven't booked flights, but now have just been called for an interview in Tampa, all in January. Seeing that all of this costs major money to fly, I need to decide what I am really serious about and am trying to do all the research I can before going to visit any of these places.

My major questions are the things to do, places to live, night life, weather... I know everyone talks about the humidity, but I lived in the south so I am aware of it. Are there bugs? Are the people friendly? I absolutely loved Myrtle Beach, I miss it every single day. Is Tampa similar at all? My best friend here in Reno actually moved from Clearwater, and she loves it there and told me it was more touristy like I would like. The job starts out with meager wages something like 28K a year. All wages in the south (including the ones in Texas) are horrible compared to here, so that is tough to deal with. Especially when rents across the board are pretty similar...

I guess I am just looking for opinions, good and bad things to think about... just stuff anyone would want to know if they were thinking of relocating.

Thanks

Hi there - there is a lot of good info on this board from several regular posters. I find people very friendly, I also find that people who ARE friendly get treated friendly! Not sure where you will be interviewing but that might make a difference as to where you would want to live, etc. I'll be honest, that $28,000 won't go too far, but if you are a single, and don't need a fancy place or will live with room mates you can do fine. The Tampa Bay area has a lot of nice assets, and I say that as a native who was born and raised here (but currently living in Sarasota).

I'm sure some of the regulars will chime in with more suggestions if you can give us a little more info of what you are looking for.

P.S. Yes, it gets hot and humid in the summer, but no more than Myrtle Beach, most of the rest of the year is pretty darn nice, I have no complaints!
