Downtown Syracuse's dining scene which experienced several high profile departures in the past year including the venerable Pascales and Ambrosia, is experiencing a major resurgence with the opening of 12 new eateries. The new restaurants represent a surprisingly diverse array of food choices including Mexican, Lebanese, and Korean as well as classic Italian fare. Although most of downtown's quality restaurants are concentrated in Armory Square, several of these new eatries will be located in highly visible and in some cases long vacant storefronts in other areas of Downtown including Columbus Circle, Clinton Square and South Warren Street. Prime Steakhouse will occupy the lower level of the Gridley Building, a space that has been vacant for years. The former Brick Alley Grill storefront at 317 Montgomery Street will be home to the "Green Apple Diner. The diner which will serve breakfast and lunch, is the brainchild of a veteran Philadelphia restaurateur who recently relocated to Syracuse.
This is exactly how you begin attracting people to any downtown. Entertain & feed them...then they will want to live there...then you will increase the tax base to redevelop other areas and/or lower the tax burden (ok...slow the increase ) per person in downtown (thus making it more attractive).
Overly simplified, sure. But it's a fantastic start and I can't wait to go check them out!!
I've noticed some signs showing that a new restaurant is coming throughout and around Downtown lately. I saw one on my way to work at a building I've never seen being used too much. It's going to be a restaurant/lounge near Dinosaur BBQ and the Lofts on Willow. So, something is going on in Downtown Syracuse that I haven't seen in a long time.
I've noticed some new spots that are now here or are coming to the Little Italy area as well.
Chipotle is awesome mex fast food. It's easily better than any of the fast food mex out there (taco bell, salsaritas, Qdoba etc.). They use humanely-grown meat and organic veggies.
As much as I love Alto Cinco on Westcott, I hate to say it, but Chipotle makes a better basic burrito IMO.

Really? Is it better than Moe's too? Either way, I'll be checking it out when they get it up and running.
